Preparation and Pre-Installation Requirements

Think about the workflow in your kitchen; place the cooktop where it will be most convenient to use. Proper placement will improve your cooking efficiency and safety.
You will also need to consider that new wiring will have to be installed. If you are renovating your kitchen and want the new cooktop on an island bench, the new wiring will need to go under the flooring.

Electrical Considerations

Induction cooktops require a suitable electrical connection, typically a dedicated circuit with adequate amperage and many homes will require a switchboard upgrade.
Occasionally we have needed to upgrade to three phase supply if the new cooktop or stove is a commercial size.
A licensed electrician will need to run a new electrical circuit from the switchboard to the induction cooktop. This can include running the circuit through ceilings and walls or even under floors.

Induction cook tops also require an isolation switch that turns the power off to the induction cook top. The isolation switch must be installed within 2 meters from the induction cooktop.
Our electricians will try to use an existing powerpoint location to Install the isolation switch.
However, there are times that there is not a power outlet close enough and you need an additional power point installed with the required cut off switch.

Disconnection of the the old cooktop from the power source.
If it’s a gas cooktop, a gasfitter is required for this step.

Securing the New Induction Cooktop

Before placing the induction cooktop, we confirm that the countertop cutout matches the dimensions of the new unit.
The induction cooktop is placed into the cutout, ensuring it rests evenly on the surface.
It’s crucial to use a level to check that it’s properly aligned.
The cooktop is then secured with brackets or screws as per the manufacturer’s instructions.
This keeps the appliance firmly in place and prevents movement during use.

If the cook top comes with a sealing gasket, we install it around the edge to create a seal between the cooktop and the countertop. This helps to keep debris and liquids from getting underneath.

Connecting to Power

The cook top is plugged in to the electrical outlet and we ensure that it is a secure and tight connection to provide stable power to the cook top.
The power is turned back on on from the main circuit breaker and we test the cook-top to check if it’s working properly.
