When You Need Rewiring For Your Home

If your home still has old rubber or cloth wiring, no safety switches, or powerpoints that can’t keep up with what you actually plug in these days, it’s time to rewire. That means we replace the old cabling with new wiring, new safety switches, and a switchboard that meets today’s standards, so your whole home is actually safe, not just the bits that get looked at when something trips.

Electrx rewires homes across Melbourne’s western suburbs. Sometimes it is one problem circuit. Sometimes it’s a full rewire of a period home from top to bottom. We do the job safely, to Australian Standards, and try to keep the mess to a minimum while we’re in your house.

Why Choose Us As Your Electricians

Signs it’s time to rewire

  • Rubber or cloth wiring: this is the sheathing found in most homes built before 1980, and by now it’s brittle and a real fire risk
  • Ceramic fuses instead of safety switches: an old style setup that won’t cut power the way a modern safety switch will
  • Fuses that keep blowing: your circuits are being asked to carry more than they were built for
  • Not enough powerpoints: if double adaptors and extension leads are doing the work your walls should be doing, that’s a sign
  • Flickering lights or warm switches: usually points to loose connections or wiring that’s undersized for what’s running through it
  • Renovating or adding a kitchen or bathroom: a good time to bring the wiring up to standard while the walls are already open
  • Buying or selling a home: knowing where you stand on the wiring removes a big unknown at inspection time

If you can smell burning, see sparks or feel a shock, stop using that circuit and call an electrician straight away.
f you’re dealing with recurring trips, dead circuits, or anything that smells or sparks. We work across Melbourne, 24 hours a day and you can reach us on 0447 139 493 i

Full rewire or partial rewire?

You might not need the whole house done. Once we’ve had a look at your wiring and switchboard, we’ll tell you honestly which one applies to your home:

  • A partial rewire: we replace the specific circuits that are old, damaged, or not up to the job anymore
  • A full rewire: we replace all the wiring, usually alongside a switchboard upgrade and new safety switches

Either way, you’ll know exactly what we found and what it costs before we start.

Made for Melbourne’s western suburb homes

The west is full of character homes. Yarraville and Seddon workers’ cottages, Newport and Williamstown double brick, Footscray terraces. Most of them were wired decades ago for a fraction of the power a household draws now. A rewire keeps the character of the home while making it safe for air conditioning, EV charging, and everything else you’re running that the original electrician never had to think about.

Done properly, to Australian Standards

All our rewiring is carried out to AS/NZS 3000 by a licensed Registered Electrical Contractor (REC 31135). We fit new safety switches, test every circuit, and hand over a Certificate of Electrical Safety once it’s done. Where we can, we run new cabling through roof spaces and cavities so we’re not cutting into your walls more than we have to.

Rewiring across Melbourne’s west

From our Brooklyn base we rewire homes across Footscray, Yarraville, Seddon, Newport, Williamstown, Altona, Werribee, Point Cook, Sunshine, Caroline Springs and out to Sunbury.

Rewiring FAQs

A full rewire of an average home usually takes a few days, depending on the size of the place, how easy it is to get to the wiring, and whether you’re living in during the work. A partial rewire can often be done in a day. We’ll give you a clear timeframe with your quote.

Usually not. We stage the work so you keep power to parts of the home where we can, and we tidy up as we go. For a bigger full rewire, we’ll walk you through what to expect day by day.

We keep cutting to a minimum and run cabling through roof spaces, subfloors, and existing cavities wherever we can. Some access holes are unavoidable, but we’re careful, we patch where we can, and we’ll tell you up front if any making good is needed.

Yes. Every rewire is tested and comes with a Certificate of Electrical Safety confirming the work meets AS/NZS 3000. That’s your proof the wiring is safe and compliant, which matters for insurance and for selling the home later on.
