The initial call was straightforward: exposed cabling running from the house to a detached garage. Once we got on site, it was a different story.

What Was On Site

The exposed cable was the obvious problem, but a site inspection told us more. The switchboard hadn’t been touched in roughly a decade, no RCDs on individual circuits, no modern fault protection. The cabling inside the garage was deteriorated and undersized. The setup wasn’t just untidy, it was a safety issue.

We also ran a complimentary safety check while we were there. The smoke alarms were ten years past their expiry date.

The Electrical Work We Did

We decommissioned the old cable run to the garage entirely and replaced it with a new upgraded circuit — sized to handle a welder, so the client has the capacity to use the space however he wants down the track.

Inside the garage, we removed the old lighting and replaced it with new fittings and cabling. Better light, properly installed.

Back at the switchboard, we completed a full upgrade — replacing the old board with individually controlled circuit protection on every circuit. Each circuit now has its own RCD, so a fault on one doesn’t take out the whole property, and every circuit meets current safety standards.

Smoke alarms were replaced while we were on site.
